CIVIC ADMINISTRATION
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT SPECIAL REPORT BEFORE COUNCIL. (Pee United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 19. The opinion that the annual administration cost of the engineer’s department of the Christchurch City Council is not excessive was expressed in a special report submitted to the council by Messrs 6. A. Hunter, and W. H. Winsor. The report pointed out that the city generally had received value for the additional expenditure entailed by the progressive policy adopted, and a permanent increase in administration costs was both inevitable and justified. Cr T. Andrews, who had requested that a report be brought down, said the report seemed all right so far as it went, but it was a veiled one. He considered that the engineer’s staff should be reduced, considerably. The report will be reviewed at the next meeting of the council.
