AUSTRALIA DEFEATS JAPAN WINNERS’ DEADLY SMASHING (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, June 8. Australia eliminated Japan. In the Doubles Crawford and Quist defeated Yamagislii and Nishininra 6—l, 6 —o, 4—o, 9—7. The Australians won the first set against Japan in 11 minutes. Both the Japanese were below form. The Japanese were unable to find a length in the second set, which the Australians won in 12 minutes. Quist was merciless at the net, while Crawford volleyed severely.

The Japanese fought gamely in the third set, which they won mainly owing to Yamagishi’s fine driving and Nishimura’s splendid serving. Japan led 4—2 in the fourth set, outlohhing the Australians.
