TWENTY-FIVE MILE ASCENT
YOUNG AMERICAN'S PROJECT (From Our Own Cobbesi-oxdent.) LONDON, April 6. Mr Mark Edward Ridge is a young American who has come to England to make a balloon ascent into the stratosphere He hopea to reach an altitude of 25 miles in the open basket of a balloon. His idea is to ascend in a pressure Suit, and he is working in collaboration with Professor J. B. S. Haldanc and Sir Robert Davis, the inventor of the Davis submarine escape apparatus. " I snail be completely in the open, said Mj Ridge, spcakinjr of his proposed aficant, " whereas Professor Picrard and others who have already ascended into the stratosphere have been in hermeticallysealed caskets."
