TROTTING

By Sentinel. The name of Parnell, 36yds bhd, has been inadvertently omitted from the Advance Handicap in ths Oatnaru race book for to-day’s meeting. Walter Wrack is a speedy trotter when he has settled down to his work, but until he learns to handle himself better in t the early stages of. his races he is not going to be a safe proposition. Hakatere was going' like a train when he broke at the. top of the straight in the Peninsula Handicap at Forbury Park on Wednesday. He was within a length of the winner at the time, and although Sea Gift won easily, such a strong finisher as Hakatere would have made-the conclusion decidedly interesting. ' Hollo greatly benefited by the race he had on the first-day at Forbury Park, and be stayed on well to win the Farewell Handicap decided .over, a mile and a> quarter in very heavy going on Wednesday. Kollo has come to hand ingood style after his holiday, and should pay his way during the winter and spring periods., Harold Logan and Walla Walla have now met on three occasions and the honours rest with Harold Logan, who has beaten the visitor twice. They will meet again to-day at Oaraaru, and the following week at Wellington. At Oamaru they will meet two fresh horses in Red Shadow and Roi I’Or, and after the past busv fortnight for Harold Logan and Walla Walla's slight indisposition, following hia race at Ashburton, everything

should be in favpur of Roi 1 Or and Red Shadow turning the tables on then-op-ponents. Roi fOr did not shape well in the first match at Addington, but in a handicap on the second day he showed rare brilliancy# Since then he has gone on the right way and promises to parade in great -order to-day. Red Shadow has had time to recover from the effects ox his Auckland trip. These two will?have everything in their favour _ to-day, L. A. Maidens has again set up a 8 a public trainer, and bas an addition to his team in Erin’s Fortune, at ope time a useful performer. She i? mdined to be temperamental, but Maidens has handled her type before, and. has won races with horses that other trainers have regarded as hopeless propositions. Having her first start in public, Ploy Lady was responsible for a pleasing display when she finished fifth in the Hautapu Handicap at Cambridge on Saturday. She began very smartly and was racing in third place until the straight entrance, where lack of racing condition began to tell against her, ami she dropped back in the run home. Play Lady is a three-year-old filly by. Peter Bingen from- Her Ladyship, and she can be expected to nn--prove considerably with the race. The American-bred horse Arion Axworthy was raced for the first time since joining F. J. Smith's stable at Takanini when he competed in the Introductory Handicap at Cambridge, but he was never a possibility, and his display was. very disappointing. When raced previously by L. F. Berkett Arion Axworthy gave indications of reaching the best class, but never lived up to that early promise and would not do his best on race day. Since going to Takanini Arion Axworthy has put on a lot of condition, and he was produced in excellent fettle on Saturday, On last week’s effort Arion Axworthy will have., to show some form before he can be supported with confidence.
