Referring to the committee’s recommendation to make alterations at the Municipal Baths to allow coal to be taken into the building from Moray place, he said that the- committee thought it advisable to meet the cost of this work so as to obviate the use of the right-of-way on the north side of the building, the privilege of using which had been costing the council £lO per'annum. Tbe report was adopted. WORKS COMMITTEE, Cr Marlow moved the adoption of the Works Committee’s report. Referring to complaints that had been voiced regarding Cargill road, he reminded the council that during the past throe years more money had been spent on this thoroughfare than on any street in Dunedin. FINANCE COMMITTEE. . ’ . Cr Shacklock moved the adoption of the Finance. Committee's report, and in doing so said that the most important clause was that in which the committee recommended that the sanction of the Local Government Loans Board should be sought to convert loans amounting to £2,214,700. He presumed that the council was in favour of this action being taken. There . was no necessity to go into the procedure, which was definitely laid down for them. In* reply to a question by Cr Marlow, Cr Shacklock said that the second hospital rate and the Drainage Board rate had been raised because of the demands of those bodies and had not been raised in order to reinstate 2 i per cent, of the 10 per cent, cut imposed on the council’s employees some time ago.
