THE WEATHER
The weather was again unsettled and wintry in Dunedin yesterday. Heavy rain- fell during the early hours of the morning, but there was an improvement after mid-day, and practically no furthor rain fell. More than 3£ inches of rain have fallen during the past five days. The maximum temperature yesterday was 40 degrees and the minimum 39 degrees. A moderate south-west wind was blowing. The barometer registered 30.45 in in the afternoon. CONDITIONS IN THE NORTH. (Special to Daily Timeb.) AUCKLAND, May 8. Fine, sunny weather and a moderate south-west win'd prevailed to-day. The barometer was practically steady. WELLINGTON, May 8. The weather was cold and squally all day, with frequent showers. A-southerly wind of strong to gale force prevailedThe temperature at 4 p.m. was 47.7 degrees and the maximum during the day was 49 degrees. The maximum force of the wind was about 56 miles per hour, although several gusts of more than 50 miles per hour were felt during the afternoon. CHRISTCHURCH, May 8, The weather to-day improved . with some sunshine, but a strong, cold southwest wind and/ showers of rain. The barometer rose to 30.20 in. The maximum temperature was 48.8.
