(Pel United Press Association.) WAIPUKURAU, May 8. Following upon a lengthy debate on the abolition of riding accounts, the Patangata County Council at a speoial meeting to-day decided that the principle be adopted and be applied by special order, the voting being six to four in favour of the motion. _ , PALMERSTON N, May 8. Prisoners were sentenced to-day by Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court:— Joseph Henry Lewis, for breaking and entering and theft, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, with hard labour. Raymond Moran and Archibald Henry Sweibruck appeared for sentence on a charge of horse-stealing. The .former received six months' imprisonment, with hard labour, and the latter three months' imprisonment.

WELLINGTON, May 8. The restoration of 5 per cent, in the wages cut was unanimously agreed to by the Petone Borough Council, to be effective from June 1 next. An injunction to restrain Harold William Frost, a dentist, of Wellington, from carrying on the practice of his profession in the city except on behalf of Frosts, Ltd., more commonly known as Frost and Frost, was sought in a case commenced in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Reed to-day. The ground of the action was that Frost was a director of Frosts, Ltd., which he denied, and that his position thereby precluded him from' entering into competition with the other two directors of the company, Gordon Frederick Harkuess and Charles Frederick Cooper. The case was not completed when the court rose,' and the hearing was adjourned sine die.
