(From Okjß Own Correspondent.) RANFURLY, March 14. RUGBY FOOTBALL.

The annual meeting of delegates to the Maniototo Rugby Football Sub-union was held in Ranfurly on Monday. The following delegates attended the meeting:— Messrs J. M. Morgan (in the chair) and J. I. Fraser (Becks), A. Aitchison and P. 11. Clark (Gimmerburn), T. Dowling and J. B. M'Gill (Hyde), T. Mitchell and D. M'Killop (Ranfurly), J. Thompson and G. P. Howell (Strath Taieri), W. Howell (Waipiata), A. M'Neilly and A. Winchester (Naseby), A. Nelson and F. G. M'Knight (Ida Valley), and T. Forrester (Schools' Association). . The president presented the following report:—Eight teams —Gimmerburn, Ranfurly, Becks, Middlemarch, Oturehua, St. Bathans, Hyde, and Naseby—took part in the senior competition, and once again the Gimmerburn team proved the winners of both the club competition and the Richard Young banner. In the junior competition six teams competed, namely, Becks, Naseby, Waipiata, Ranfurly,. Kyeburn, and Middlemarch. This competition proved very interesting and the result was in doubt until the final match. Becks won the competition by a narrow margin of two points. The Naseby team retained the Blakely Cup. The county fixtures against Waihcmo were played at Falmerston on July 8, the result being a win in both events for Waihemo—the seniors by 13—8 and the juniors 25—nil. It would appear that a change in the mettioa of selecting the junior team for this event would be advisable. The Waihemo junior county team is drawn from senior teams, while our team is composed of bona facie Second Grade players, and the result ot a game between the two teams can hardly be otherwise than one-sided. The countj matches against Vincent were played at Ranfurly. Maniototo won . the senior game by 9 to 6, and also the junior game by 3 to nil. A team from the Waitaki County paid a visit and played a match against Maniototo at Ranfurly. Maniototo succeeded in winning the game by 11 points to 8. The tournament was held at Ranfurly on September 2. Large entries were received, the introduction of a bantam event making it necessary to use a second ground at the school. In spitei of this the senior event could not be completed, the finalists having to play at a later date. The winners of the various events- were as follow S :-Senior, Otu ehua; juniors, Matakanui; schoolboys Dunedin A: bantams, Patearoa. The financial position of the sub-union, as was expected, shows an improvement on the previous vcar. The season was commenced .with a credit balance of £77, and the credit balance at the conclusion of the season amounted to £IOO 0s lid, an increase ot £23 0s lid.' The balance, sheet, showing a credit balance of £IOO 0s lid, was also read, and both the report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr M'Neilly, on behalf of the Naseby Club, formally moved that the rules be amended so that each club should have representation on the sub-union.—Mr A. Winchester seconded the motion, ana after a long discussion the motion was put to the meeting, being lost on a show of hands. , ' ~ .„„.
