POISON IN GINGER BEER.

NINE PEOPLE AFFECTED,

BRISBANE, March 13.

Nine persons of one family at Lodden Station, 50 miles west of Charleville, were poisoned as the result of drinking ginger beer brewed in a vessel which had previously contained prickly pear poison, one of the ingredients of which was arsenic. All were saved after a long fight by a doctor.

HEAT WAVE CONTINUES.

SYDNEY, March 13,

The heat wave continues, though slight rain has fallen in the city area. High temperatures prevail inland, the western districts reporting the sixth consecutive day of over 100 degrees. Yesterday the temperature in Melbourne reached 100 degrees, being the tenth successive century registration; while Adelaide reached 104.3 degrees, and it was over 90 degrees at 9 o’clock last night. The bush fire losses in South Australia are estimated at £IOO,OOO.

TWO BODIES FOUND.

POSSIBLY A DEATH PACT.

ADELAIDE, March 13. (Received March 14, at 0.15 a.m.)

The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered in an isolated rocky part of the beach at Marino to-day. There was a bullet wound in the woman’s breast and a bullet wound in the man’s head. A revolver was found close by. Identification has not been established. The police are of the opinion that it is a case of murder and suicide, possibly a death pact.
