THE UNEMPLOYED
POSITION IN BRITAIN ~ DECREASE IN FEBRUARY. (British Official Wireless.) V . ; RUGBY, March, 5. (Received March 6, at 5.5 p;m.) It is estimated that on February 19 there were approximately 9,941,000 insured persons aged from 16 to 64 in employment in Britain. This is 67,000 more than a month before and 625,000 more than a year before. The industries that showed the greatest improvement during the past month were building and public works contracting, tailoring, boot and shoe manufacture, arid pottery manufacture. There was also some improvement in the iron and steel, engineering and motor vehicle industries, and the shipping service, ; On February 19 the number of unemployed persons on the registers: of em* ployment exchanges in Britain was 1,881,532. wholly unemployed, 340,897 temporarily stopped, artd 95;480-normally in casual employment. The total was 71,159 fewer than the number .on the registers at January 22, and 538,729 fewer than,a year before. The total on February 19, 1934," comprised' 1,883,782 men, 58,368 boys, 328,146 women, and 47,613 girls.
