EMPIRE GAMES

DOMINION REPRESENTATION PINAL SELECTION DEFERRED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 6. Nominations of athletes for inclusion in the New Zealand team to compete at the British Empire Games, London, in August of this year were received at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last.night from each of the centres, except the West Coast of the North Island. They were considered in committee and the council decided to wait till March 26. by which time the visiting Australian team will have appeared against the North Island athletes', before making a recommendation to the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. In a letter enclosing a copy of the rules the secretary of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association said that final nominations must be forwarded not later than March 31. The actnal date of departure of the team had not been definitely fixed, but it would be about the middle of June, and the team probably would return towards the end of September. He' made reference to the fact that the team would be in England for a period longer than that covered by the English Association. TbAs would mean finding about £6O per man by the associations whose men are finally selected.

This resulted in a debate and tho carrying of a resolution to ask i ih«> Olympic and British Empire Games Association to stand by its resolution of two or three years ago for the amount overdrawn to send a New Zealand team to the Olympic games in 1932 to be recouped in four equal instalments, and also to ask the association to contribute np to £3OO towards the expenses of tho team going to London. The South African Amateur Athletic Association wrote asking if it would be possible for New Zealand to accept an invitation for the New Zealand Empire games team to travel via South Africa. The South African Association would be prepared to pay any extra cost ami defray all expenses in South Africa. It was decided to send the letter to the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association.
