The weather was fine for the Victoria Racing Club's meeting at Flemingtori, and there was an , excellent attendance, including a number of New Zealahders, - Dunkeld just beat the speedy Burando in the Pines Hurdle. Race. The New Zealander Appledore had every .chance. The New Zealand-bred Sir, John scored a J brilliant win in' the Sires Produce Stakes., He has now started five -times for three wins and two seconds. He is trained by the ex-New Zealander, George Price, who, with the rider, M'Carten, won the race previously with Kuvera. There :was a- great finish in the Essendon Stakes, four horses passing the post together. Heroic Prince, who was a bad last at the turn, won in the last stride, .and greatly pleased his Australian Cup admirers. The rider, M'Carten, scored his second win of the afternoon.. Deputy Ruler ran badly, and was last home. Foursome, on the outside rails, was always prominent and had a brilliant win •in the Newmarket, Handicap. Dame Moab and Jacko ran good races, and Waltzing Lily and Closing close to the placed horses. Golden Wings was troublesome at the start and. lost a little ground.; He joined the leaders at three furlongs, but tired at the finish. Dole ran a good race, but Ruling .Light was neve"r dangerous.
