•It was reported that- the queen carnival contest which is being held for the raising of: funds Tor the regatta, is still creating "considerable interest, and as ‘-lie, contest .will close on January 31 the competioji between each committee which is supporting the queens is very keen. During the next 10 days or so many functions will be "held and the efforts being made will result in a fairly substantial sum of money being realised. Entries for the various events will close, on Saturday, and judging by the entries already received,,there should ba keen competition in the events. Rowing clubs in Southland, Canterbury, Oamaru arid Timaru Will be strongly represented in' the rowing races, and the yacht and motor boat races have attracted record entries. ,
A liwitnming carnival will be held in conjunction with the regatta, and an exhibition polo match has been arranged by the Otago Swiirtming Centre. The committee has decided to conduct IEo model;' yacht races, also the girls’ and boys’ dinghy races between the George street pier and the Bowen pier, so that this class of the sport, which is steadily gaining support, will be in full view of tin public. The Railways Department will run special trains to Tort Chalmers on February 3.
