BOXING
MONDAY NIGHT’S BOUT. The Otago Boxing Association has_ commenced the new year well in securing a match between J. Franklin, of Gisborne, and Colin Jones, of Oainaru. Franklin comes fresh from a victory over C. Raynor, the holder of the professional .feather-weight title of New Zealand. Franklin ha s been kept right up to the collar in his home town, Gisborne, where he is highly thought of, and he comes south for the first time with the reputation of being a particularly hard hitter. Colin Jones is known in Dunedin as one of the cleverest and nippiest boxers yet seen here, and he is always a great favourite with the crowd. Jones was tm. gaged by the 0.8. A. to meet Johnny Leckie for the title, but, unfortunately, he suffered an accident and was unable to appear. Many good 'judges contend that he is the logical feather-weight pion and that he is unfortunate in not actually holding the title. A match between these two, both fighting their way to championship honours, will be more than usually interesting. With due regard to the times, the local association Ims decided to _ reduce the prices of admission to the minimum, and patrons will be assured of. good seats at reasonable, prices. - The professional contest will be preceded by amateur preliminaries. Among those taking part is J. Arnott, from-Mil-ton, who has created such a good impression on former occasions. Particulars are advertised in this issue. MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Otago Boxing Association met Igst evening, when arrangements for next Monday’s contest between J. Franklin and C. Jones were finished. It was decided that the contest should not be broadcast, and there will be no last minute alteration of this decision.
