(Received Dec. 13, at 5.5 p.m.) Viscount Churchill, presiding at the annual shareholders’ meeting of the British Overseas Bank, stated that despite various new unsettling factors the first faint signs of trade improvement noticeable a year ago had definitely grown stronger. Indeed, the force behind this favourable development * must be very much greater than could be measured by the actual recovery shown. Even more •reassuring was that this progress was largely the outcome of regained confidence among business communities, especially in Britain, who had begun to recover from the shocks of the last few years and to adapt themselves to the new con ■ ditions. Burgin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, stated that the export of British manufactured goods In November, 1933, had risen by 14 per cent, from November, 1932. The total value was £34,000,000, compared with £28,000,000 in January, 1933, since when there had been a continual rise. LATEST TREASURY RETURNS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 12. (Received Dec. 13, at 5.5 p.m.) The latest Treasury returns show that the ’ ordinary revenue for the current financial year to December 9 amounted to £385,189,086, compared with £375,137,801 at the corresponding date in 1932. Ordinary expenditure to date for the current year totalled £528,455,783, as compared with £479,962,009 at the corresponding date last year.
