WELLINGTON RACING CLUB

HEAVY TAXATION BURDEN. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 12. At the annual meeting of the Wellington Racing Club the president (Mr E. L. Riddiford) said that the year had resulted in a profit of £297 after allowing £2500 for depreciation. Owners had been hard hit and the reduction in stakes had not been balanced by any, real decline in the cost of racing. Owners had continued nominating and racing horses in a manner that was a tribute to their enthusiasm. During the year £25,217 had been paid to the Government in taxation. Mr Riddiford was re-elected president and Mr J. W. Abbot vice-president.
