MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the South Otago Hospital Board was held at Balclutha yesterday and was attended by the chairman (Mr J. W. Fenton) and Messrs King, M'Gregor, Rennie, Sutherland, Christie, Thomson, M'Kenzie, Brough, Russell and Waite. FINANCE, The treasurer’s statement showed that the receipts for the month were £2119 4s, and the expenditure £1234 10s Bd. The debit balance at August I was £4414 19s Bd, and the debit balance at date £3530 Cs 4d.—Adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. The secretary of the Owaka Unemployment Committee wrote thanking the board for forwarding the sum of £lO received from a recent art union to the Clutha County Council for unemployment relief.—Received. A letter was received from Mr J. D. Watt (Alexandra), who expressed the thanks of his family for the treatment accorded their late father while a patient at the Balclutha Hospital.— Received. . , . A cheque for £l4 was received from the treasurer of the “ My Lucky Chance art union, that amount having been allocated by the Minister of Internal Affairs for the relief of distress generally at Owaka.—Received. A circular in respect to the standard of education of pupil nurses was received from the Nurses and Midwives’ Registration Board. This stated that while the standard was improving boards were requested to keep in view the need for a high standard of education, and that trainees should as far as possible be selected from applicants with a good secondary education—Received. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. The Medical Superintendent (Dr D. G. Radcliffe) submitted the following report for the month, the figures for the corresponding month last yeaj being given in parentheses

Balclutha Hospital.—Admissions 64 (40); discharges 39 (38); remaining 48 (46). ... Milton Hospital.—Admission 14 (13); discharges 15 (15); remaining 6 (10). Owaka Hospital.—Admissions 14 (7); discharges 15 (8) ; remaining 9 (8). Kaitangata Hospital.—Admissions 4 (3); discharges 8 (4); remaining 2 (1); out-patients 3 (3). The report was adopted.
