WATER SUPPLIES
RUNNING LOW IN ENGLAND EFFECT OF THE DROUGHT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 6. (Received Sept. 7, at 5.5 p.m.) In a statement with regard to the water supplies affected by the continuance of dry weather, the Minister for Health ..(Sir Hilton Young), after commenting that the drought was sufficiently serious to call for the conservation of supplies by all responsible local authorities,-stated that the shortage in the domestic water supplies was not so serious as at the droughts of the summers of 1921 and 1929. The most serious shortage was in some rural areas, which at present have to rely on shallow wells and small surface supplies—for example, in 6ome parts of Lancaster and North Wales.
