Wlicn a Paris merchant. Eugene Messenger, -who was seen to be very bulky on'landing at Newhavcn, was searched, he was found to have a sack tied round his body and suspended by a tape from '"inside"' the sack were 42 embroidered handbag shapes, and others were found in the legs of his trousers and the arms of his coat. The value of the goods was £4B The full penalty of £lO2 9s 9d was imposed at Lewes, and the goods were confiscated.
