MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE A meeting of the General Committee of the Otago Cricket Association was held last night, and was attended by the president (Mr J. M. Eraser) and Messrs A. Martin, D. A. Solomon, E. Ferguson, W. Brookes, J. A. Robson, W. Strang, and Dr Reid. . . . The Hawke’s Bay Association issued an invitation to the Otago team to play a Hawke’s Bay team at Napier on January 5 and 6. —Referred to the incoming committee, the Hawke’s Bay Association to be advised later in the year. - A letter was received from the Canterbury Association confirming December 23, 25, 26, and 27 for the match between Otago and Canterbury at Christchurch. — Received and approved. The Canterbury Cricket Association forwarded a cheque for £2 2s towards the fund to assist Mr Alexander Downes.— Received with thanks. A letter was received from the secretary of the Dunedin Cricket Chib stating that the club’s senior team would.be seriously weakened during the coming season, chiefly through the transfer to Christchurch of Mr R. W. Coupland, and applied for the services of the association’s coach, F. T. Badcock. The senior team would include some promising boys who should benefit from expert tuition, and if the application was granted it would see the club over a lean period.— Referred to the incoming committee. A letter was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Cricket Council advising that the biennial conference of special delegates would be held on Isovember 8, and the annual meeting of the council on November 9. —Received, delegates to be appointed later. The secretary submitted a draft annual report, which was approved with slight alterations. It was decided to send a letter ot congratulation to tfiie Otago Ladies’ Hockey Association on its success at the recent tournament at Dannevirke. PORT CHALMERS CLUB The annual meeting of the Port Chalmers Cricket Club was held last night. The president of the club (Mr W. Corbett) presided. Moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the president said it was pleasing, to see the progress which had been made by the Third Grade team. The speaker congratulated the winners of the club’s batting averages in the various sections. The club, he said, was affected by the financial depression, and a good deal of money was outstanding. This, he was afraid, was unavoidable, and a good many of the outstanding amounts would have to be remitted. The club was fortunate in not being obliged to incur much expense on its ground, and next year they would probably be able to obtain the assistance of unemployed labour in work on the ground. In conclusion, the speaker paid a tribute to the work of the ladies of Port Chalmers in the interests of the club. A member suggested that outstanding subscriptions should be wiped off and the year started with a clean sheet,—lt was decided to leave the matter to the commit! ee for favourable consideration. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The secretary of the Otago Amateur Athletic Chib’s Protection Association wrote suggesting that the chib should affiliate with the association. —Received. Before vacating the chair the retiring president thanked the members for the support they had given him during the past seven years, and asked them to afford his successor the same support during his term of office. The incoming president urged the members to pull together, and said he was sure the team would do even better in the coming season. The subscription was ’fixed at the same amount as for last year. The opening day was fixed for October 7. The secretary was instructed to write to the auditor expressing the sympathy of the members with him in his recent accident.
