(London), has‘arrived in New Zealand to join the consultant staff of the Mining House (N.Z.) Limited. Professor Lawson left by the through express yesterday for Christchurch, where he will deliver, under the auspices of Canterbury University College, the biennial Wilding memorial lecture. The three previous lectures have been given by Sir John Adam (ex-professor of education, London), Professor Conway (Manchester), and Professor Macmillan Brown. Mr R. W. Coupland, manager of the Dunedin office of the Government Tourist Department, has received notice of his transfer to Christchurch. His departure will mean a loss to cricket locally, as he has represented Otago on several occasions, and ha« been a member of the Dunedin Club's senior eleven for the past two or three seasons. Advice has been received by Professor H. Mackenzie, of Victoria University College, that his son, Mr Fraser Mackenzie, has been appointed lecturer in French at St. Andrews University, Scotland. There were 51 applicants for the position from all over the United Kingdom. Mr Mackenzie is a graduate of Victoria University College, where he took his M.A. with first-class honours in French. He was awarded a travelling scholarship and the gold medal presented by the French Government for the best I rench scholar of the year, and in 1929 proceeded to the Sorbonne University, Pans, where he was engaged in post-graduate studies up to the time of his appointment. It was at St. Andrews University that his father, Professor Mackenzie, graduated.
