MATERNITY HOSPITAL

THE GOVERNMENT’S PROMISE

TARANAKI WOMEN’S PROTEST.

(Per United Press Association.) STRATFORD, August 5.

At a largely attended meeting of the Central Taranaki Executive of the Women’s Division of the Fanners’ Union the following resolution was passed:— “That the Government bo urged to fulfil the promise it made in September, 1929, to build a maternity hospital in connection with the Medical School at Dunedin.” It was stated that the Government had failed to keep its promise to the Obstetrical Society and it was contended by Mrs D. Steven and Dr W. P. Gordon that buildings available in Dunedin for obstetrical training of students were not suitable or up-to-date. In fact, the facilities were not capable of properly coping with the cases. At present the buildings were too cramped and the patients were forced to leave the hospital after 10 days.
