GOVERNOR'S ESCAPE

BOMB ON RAILWAY OUTRAGE IN BENGAL. CALCUTTA, July 25. An attempt to kill the Governor of Bengal, Sir John Anderson, with a bomb on a railway track, failed to-day. His Excellency was returning from a tour of East Bengal. The pilot engine was entering Kalukhali station, 135 miles from Calcutta, when a loud explosion occurred under the engine. Examination showed that a bomb had been placed between the points. Fortunately, the bomb was either old or badly manufactured, and the engine and the railway track were only slightly damaged. * The Governor reached Calcutta safely this afternoon.
