OBITUARY

MR DUNCAN CAMPBELL (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 5. The death is announced of Mr Duncan Campbell; aged 89. The deceased, was born at Edinburgh and came to New Zealand in 1864, taking part in the gold rushes in Central Otago, and in 1868 he was attracted by the discovery cf gold in Marlborough. The deceased settled in Wellington in 1881, where he was associated with different engineering firms. For the past 35 years h<> had b<en a land agent in Wellington South. He was one of the oldest members cf the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows and was a foundation member of the Wellington South Church of Christ, of which he was the first treasurer. MRS BESSIE BUTTLE The death has occurred at Auckland of Mrs Bessie Buttle. She was born at Dunedin, and after her marriage to Mr Benjamin W. Buttle, who was then manager of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company, she resided in various parts of the Dominion. In 1905 they settled in Auckland, and Mr Buttle died there in 1920. FLIGHT-LIEUTENANT E. COLLYNS Advice has been received of the death in an aeroplane accident at Aden lastmonth of Flight-lieutenant Eric Collyus, son of Mr Guy S. Collyns, of Nigeria, British West Africa. Flight-lieutenant Collyns obtained the Governor-general's recommendation to enter the Air Force in England from Nelson College. His father was also an old boy of Nelson College.
