REARRESTED AND IMPRISONED

CALCUTTA, August 4.

Mr Gandhi, who was rearrcsted on breaking the order not to' leave the confines of the city of Poona, appeared before a magistrate this evening, and was sentenced to one year’s simple imprisonment under the Bombay Emergency Powers Act. Attempts by congressmen to revive the boycott of British goods in Bombay today were dispelled by prompt, police arrests. .

Mr Gandhi admitted a deliberate breach of the Government s order, whies he said he had no alternative but to disobey, although he was a man of peace. A light sentence was imposed in view of Gandhi’s age and the fact that the Government did not press for severe punishment.
