DRUIDISM. . The Lily of the Valley Lodge was presided over by A.D. Bro. Winter, a good attendance being noticed. A considerable amount of correspondence was received and dealt with. Invitations were received from' the Chapter for the Ross Stewart competition, from Ivanhoe Lodge challenging Lily for the euchre shield and a welcome to their new lodge room. It was decided to play Ivanhoe at the Lily’s next meeting. After routine business had been disposed of, Dr de Lautour was announced and welcomed by the A.D. on behalf of the brethren. He delivered a short lecture on “ Blood Pressure.” which was listened to with marked attention. Arrangements for hard-up night were left in the hands of the isecretary. The toasts rvere honoured'by A.D. Bro. Robertson, Pride of Mornington, and others. *

.The Otago Lodge met last Monday evening, when Arch Drud Bro. Sheppard presided over a large attendance of members. Invitations were received and accepted from Ivanhoe Lodge and the Royal Arch Chapter. The lodge went into mourning out of respect to the memory of Bro. T. M’Kersey, who passed away a few days previously, and was one of the oldest members of the lodge, having joined in 1880. Bros. Watson, Gillam, and M'Crone Were selected to contest the debate at Royal Oak next week. A challenge for the cribbage shield was received. Bro: D. Brown reported on a pleasant evening spent with the Alexandra Lodge, whose progress was pleasing to note. After business the members spent a social hour with cards and games. Bro. Ford. Enterprise, responded to the visitors’ toast.

PROTESTANT ALLIANCE. .. Triumph Lodge No. 9 held its fortnightly meeting on Thursday last. There was a good muster of members to greet the W.M. (Bro. G. Perrin), who presided and was assisted by a full staff of officers. The reports of the Sick Committee were received and claims passed for payment. The Social Committee reported that it had considered the request of the No. 4 District Unemployment Committee to assist it, and had decided to hold a hard-up evening on September 5. The lodge was then adjourned, and the lodge room handed over to the band. A large gathering of friends assembled and were made welcome by the W.M. (Bro. Perrin). The band, .under the conducfcorship of Bro. H. D. Bachop, gave a very pleasant programme. The Pride of the Valley Ladies’ Lodge, No. 1, held its fortnightly meeting on Tuesday, when there was an excellent attendance of members. The Wor. Mistress Currie presided and. was assisted in the opening exercises'of the lodge by Sis. Gardiner, chaplain. The lady superintendent of the Girls’ Juvenile Lodge reported that the girls were improving in their lessons. The Sick Committee reported that it had paid a visit to the sick, and had attended at the Hospital. At the close of the lodge the members paid a visit to the Valley True Blue, and received a very warm welcome from the W.M., Bro. Graves. D.M. Sis. Morgan returned thanks on behalf of the lodge. The fortnightly meeting of the Valley True Blue Juvenile Lodge was held on Tuesday. The W.M., Bro. Young, who was assisted by P.M. Bro. N. Williams and Chap. Bro. S. Sinclair, opened the lodge. After the roll call one candidate was initiated into the Order. One friend was proposed for membership. Reference was made to the ill-health of Bro. Sutherland. P.M. Bro. R. Drysdale welcomed the newly initiated brother. After the business had been completed games were enjoyed. The W.M., Bro, W. Graves, assisted by a full staff of officers, presided at the meeting of the Valley True Blue Lodge Noll on Tuesday. Welcomes were extended to Bro. M. Miller, on a visit from Fairlie, P.M. Bro. Jackson, No. 9, and the Pride of Valley True Blue. Bro. Miller thanked the lodge for the welcome j extended to him and assured the lodge that although he was far away from the lodge his interest wag always there. P.M. j Bro. Jackson and D.M. Sis. Morgan also replied to the welcome. The lodge decided to attend the Friendly Societies’ I Parade, and also the annual parade of the | Royal Black Preceptory, The draft pro- ’ gramme for the jubilee function to be 1 held in October was presented by Bro. ! Harvey and adopted. After the business : was disposed of a very happy social even- j ing was spent by the members. Loyal Excelsior Juvenile Lodge, No. 4, held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday, the wor. mistress, Sis. G. Robson, presiding over a good attendance of juveniles and adults. One new member was initiated into the Order. The ceremony of initiation was watched with keen interest by the adult visitors, and was carried out in a very creditable manner by the W.M. and her officers. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Excelsior Lodge, No. 41, wa« held on Wednesday. W.M. Bro. J. C. Lindsay i presided, and opened the meeting with the assistance of Acting-chaplain Bro. W. R. Morland. There was a very large gathering of members. Before proceeding with the business of the evening the W.M. referred to the bereavement of a brother, and a motion of sympathy was carried, members standing in silence. Sick pay was passed for payment, and reports of committees received and dealt with. A very fine lecture on Protestantism was given by the Rev. Bro. Armstrong to a large audience, the speaker being accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
