THE BIRCH STREET WHARF

TO THE EDITOR. Sir. —In my letter in this morning’s issue, in referring to the intercolonial and coastal trade over the Birch street wharf, I wrote: “With the existing direct railway communication, it is possible to ship country produce as cheaply as at any other port.” In making this statement, I was referring to the haulage and delivery charges, and not to the harbour dues, and I regret that I did not make this clear at the time. —I am etc., ■ John B- Waters, Representing Payers of Harbour Dues on Goods. Dunedin. August 2.
