UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF

LOCAL ACTIVITIES WORK FOR TO-DAY The following group will report for work at 8 a.m. to-day with the D.C-O. Reserves Department:—7o3, at Opoho football ground. No. 2 DEPOT At the monthly meeting of the committee of the No. 2 depot presided over by the Rev. E. S. Tuckwcll reports were received from the various officers. The Ladies’ Committee reported on the good response from friends and on the fine quality of goods sent monthly. They thanked the following for donations:— Miss Stark, Miss Cook, Mrs Boyle, Messrs Irvine and Stevenson, Mrs K. Ritchie, Mr Walker, Miss Denniston, Mrs Hoywood, Miss M'Kerras, Miss Theomin, Balmacewen Golf Club, Mrs Cruicksliank, Mrs C. Rattray, Miss G. Stark, Miss Blaekie, Mrs G. Ritchie, Home Science students, Miss E. Fox, Mrs Cox, Unemployed Girls’ Club, Mrs Smooth, St. Margaret’s College, St. Paul’s, Miss Lanahan and Messrs Fleming Bros. (Gore). A large quanity of clothing and hoots from the commercial travellers’ drive is being distributed free. The committee is grateful to the commercial travellers for their work and to the people who gave so liberally. ST. KILDA No. 5 DISTRICT This afternoon between the hours of 3.30 and 4.30 a free distribution of children’s clothing and footwear will be made from the Mayor’s Relief Depot, St. Kilda, to the unemployed of the borough. Patrons are requested to bring wrapping paper or a bag for goods. THE MAYOR’S FUND APPEAL FOR £IO.OOO.

RELIEF CAMP STRIKE (Per United Press Association.) MASTERTON, August 3. The dismissal of a man for insolence to the engineer in charge resulted in another strike at the Blairlogie relief camp to-day, and most of the men have come into Masterton.
