“ROPE”

■ Next Friday and Saturday the Otago University Literary and Dramatic Society will produce in His Majesty s iheati o Patrick Hamilton’s well-known play, “ Rope.” After the commencement or the play the doors will be closed for a-quar-ter of an hour to prevent late-cqmers trooping in over the toes of the auc.ience. The reason for this comforting line ot action is the note of dramatic suspense in the play for a time after the rise of the curtain. “ Rope ” has been produced in other cities by amateur societies, and the success of their ventures has been such lhat the habit has spread to Dunedin. It is natural that such a play as this should have a wide appeal. “ Rope achieves that uncommon end of striking a happy medium. It is neither as boring to the average man as the average drama nor as disturbing to the " highbrow ” as the usual mystery play. This is because it combines the good points of both. The play is produced by Mr Reg. Tapley.
