NOTES FROM SYDNEY
(United Rpeus Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, August 2. (Received Aug. 2, at 11 p.m.) At the Kensington races to-day Kodapen 8.2 (Bartle) won the Kensington Handicap by a length in 2niin lUsee. The New Zealander Desert Star was unplaced. The jockey, W. Broughton, who was brought over specially to ride the latter, will return tp New Zealand by Friday’s boat. Desert Star failed also at Victoria Park last Saturday. The New Zealanders Light Brigade and Master Brierly, which arrived by the Manama on Tuesday in charge of R. S. Bagby, were on the tracks at Randwick this morning. Light Brigade was a very sick horse, and was placed under veterinary care, but died at mid-day through inflammation of the kidneys. Application was recently made to the Government by the Australian Jockey Club for permission to introduce the. five shilling totalisator at Randwick, mainly on the ground of the reduced spending power of the people and the consequent fal!ing : off of revenue from the ten shilling totalisator. The Government has replied stating that the matter is being held in abeyance pending further information.
