OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION

CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH FORMED

Fifty former pupils of the Southland Boys’ High School on Tuesday evening attended a meeting at the Christchurch Training College to form a branch of the Old Boys’ Association. The branch was formed and officers elected.

The officers are: Chairman, Mr A. M. Burns; vice-chairmen, Dr T. A. MueGibbon and Mr L. J. H. Hensley ; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. J. Campbell; committee—Messrs H, Cavcll, C. H. Hartley, M, Ott, A. C. Brown, G. H. Macan, S. W. Young, and H. Dyer. Mr Hensley presided, and stated that the Southland High School was the only one of the large secondary schools which had not a branch of its old boys’ association in Christchurch, and it had been felt for some time that the position should be remedied. An interim committee had taken* the initiative and done some preparatory work. The result was the meeting that evening. In accordance with the rules a letter had been sent to the secretary of the association formally asking .permission to form a branch, and although no reply had been received it was intended to proceed in the ordinary course.

Mr Hensley stated that a request had been made to the members to billet five boys from the school who would be taking part in the secondary schools’ tournament in Christchurch this rnenth. The boys would arrive dn Thursday, August 17, and return on August 22. Arrangements were also made to entertain the Southland boys’ team on one evening during tbeir visit. It was decided to circularise members to this effect.
