THE MAYOR’S BUILDING SCHEME

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —According to the report in this morning’s issue of the anti-camp movement meeting held last night, the Mayor is apparently embarking on round two of the 15 rounds of electioneering which he promised his City Council some weeks ago. and it is to be sincerely hoped that round two has more to commend it a s sound policy in the interests of the whole of the citizens than round one. Judging, however, from the speech delivered by his henchman. Mr Silverstono. that gentleman evidently does not see much in the proposal, as he forecasts its defeat by a vote of nine to three. It seems to' me that the Mayor’s proposal would have had a much better chance of success had Mr Silverstone’s speech never been made, or at least, not been published. It does seem a pity, also, that his Worship does not place his proposals in the first place before his council instead of after they have been propounded to some outside body.—l am, etc., Dunedin, August 2. Elector.
