THEFT FROM SHIP
WATERSIDE WORKER IMPRISONED (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 5. For the theft of men’s slices from the Turakina on June 16 Daniel James Johnson, a waterside worker at Lyttelton, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. The police said that shoes had been stolen from the ship, and seven were found in the accused’s home. The company’s representative stated that pillaging was increasing. Recently 160 pairs of shoes had been stolen from- one ship. The magistrate (Mr H. A. Young) said that pillaging was difficult to detect, and sentences of imprisonment were intended to act ns a deterrent.
