PROFESSIONAL NOTES FIXTURES. July 8. —Green Island to Allanton and Ou.tram. The points for the BeaWCup are now as.follows: —W. Garnon 16, M. Cannon 13, A. IT. Brown and K. Wilson-Pyne 10, Lucas -8, Thomas, Guthrie, Lucas, Hay 5, Paul 3, Ralston and Scott 2. Witli/one race to run Garnon looks a probable winner, as there is only one man (Cannon) who is at all likely to beat him, and he would have either to win this Saturday’s race or gain second place and fastest time. With A. Hay now riding for the club there is little chance of Cannon gaining time. The only other possible contestants are Wilson-Pyne and A. H. Brown, but either of these riders would have to obtain a first and fastest time to beat Garnon. The Otago Athletic and Cycling Club’s seventh race for the Beale Cup was run last Saturday under ideal weather conditions. A noticeable feature (and one that augurs well for the club) was the inclusion in the field of two of the leading amateurs. A. J. Hay, the well-known ex-Otago amateur, who holds an Otago track championship and gained second fastest time in the New Zealand 100-mile Road Championship, gained second and fastest time in last Saturday’s race. Hay should be fit in time for the 50-mile, and it will be interesting to watch the examateur scratch rider and the professional scratch men competing against one another in this race. , M. Beale, the popular ex-Pacifie scratch rider, was a starter last week. This makes three prominent amateur riders who have turned professional in two weeks. R. Wilson-Pyne is at the top of form at present and should go well in the 50mile in a few weeks’ time. Wilson-Pyne has a very fine sprint, which he has used to trood advantage this season. E. Brosnan has returned to Dunedin and made a reappearance on Saturday. He has had no training yet. but intends training for the 50-mile. He is a determined rider and should, go dose up in this, the biggest event staged in Otago for some years. F. Beale made a determined bid to keep in the van from a large bunch consisting of nearly the whole field. At Otokia h« was only about a mile in the lead, but managed to keep his lead until the hill, where he was overtaken owing to lack df training. T. Dillon was a starter on Saturday, but is seriously handicapped by not being able to' train. L. Johnstone was out again after having a spell away from the snort, but needs more training before he will be home with the front bunch.
