JOYNT SCROLL DEBATE

The annual Joynt Scroll debate is to be held in the Town Hall Concert Chamber on Tuesday next. At this debate, which is held in each of the four centres in successive years, teams representing the four New Zealand Universities will compete for the scroll presented by the late Mr -J. W. Joynt, a former registrar of the University of New Zealand. The subject chosen by the judges (Mr A. C. Hanlon, K.C., Mr J. L. MTndoe, and Pastor W. D. More) for this year’s debate is “ That the British Empire is Now in a State of Decline.” Otago University, which will be represented by Messrs J, C. Mowat and L. F. Moller, wilt take the affirmative against Auckland in the second debate, Wellington being pitted again* Canterbury in the first debate.
