THE YANGTSE IN FLOOD
GRAVE ANXIETY CAUSED FEVERISH PRECAUTIONS (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SHANGHAI, June 28. It is reported that the flood waters of the Yangtse are causing grave anxiety. Feverish precautions are being taken to combat a disaster similar to that of two years ago which affected 34,000 square miles, involving 23,000,000 persons, and took toll of thousands of lives. TERRIBLE CONDITIONS. PEOPLE EATING SAWDUST. * SHANGHAI, June 28. The White Swastika relief organisation at Harbin reports terrible conditions in the Hailung-suihwa territory, which lias not recovered from the disastrous floods of last- year. The inhabitants are reduced to eating bark from trees, leaves, and sawdust.
