TAPANUI NOTES

(From Odb Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, June 26. RAILWAY MATTERS. Considerable interest in railway matters is being evinced throughout the district at present, as it is freely rumoured that the department is seriously considering abandoning the carriage of passengers and parcels on the Waipahi-Edievale branch line. Several railway ofheials have been in the district lately, interviewing business people in the matter. There is reliable information to hand that there are three syndicates which are prepared to put motors on the road between Waipahi and Edievale, or even Moa Flat, in the event of the Railway Board abandoning the passenger service on the branch line. Mr C. Barnes. South Island railway business agent, is expected to visit the district again very shortly in connection with the matter. FOOTBALL. The West Otago Sub-union matches plaved on Saturday resulted:— . Waipahi defeated Tapanm at Waipahi by 6 points to 3. Waikoikoi and Heriot drew at Henot, no fse*>ie. . ', Union won their match against Waikaka by default. SHOOTING. The Tapanui Rifle Club fired its fourth Cup Match on Wednesday, when there was a good muster of riflemen.
