MOSGIEL CITIZENS' ASSOCIATION

There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Mosgicl Citizens' Association last night, Mr H. Millar presiding. . • ~ • A set of rules for the guidance of the association was submitted and adopted. - The chairman and secretary were appointed to attend the next monthly meeting of the Mosgiel Borough Council. It was decided to write.to the Borough Council to have two. special clean-up days in the borough in the year in addition to the ordinary weekly round of the garbage contractor.

It was decided to draw the council's attention to hedges overhanging footpaths, and to the drivers of horses riding on footpaths, especially the pathway on Quarry road. /' The need for an improved post office was discussed, and it was decided to support the action of the Mayor in this matter. At next meeting the steps to be taken by the association would be considered.

A debate, " Should the Borough Rates Be Reduced ?" followed the completion of the ordinary business. Messrs G. Hendry arid J. Crawford spoke for reduction and Messrs G. Gibson and J. Armstrong against. All speakers were listened to with wrapt attention, and at the close the chairman congratulated the gentlemen who had led the discussion in the debate. Two points raised were worthy of the attention of the council —by unemployed labour Factory road could be sealed without as much outlay as would have to be met by the council, and the increasing of the means of bringing in the water supply to the borough; if by pipe line, the material only would fall on the borough's finances.
