TAIERI COURSING CLUB

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING The Taieri Coursing Club bold a successful meeting on Saturday, when the Eight-dogs Stakes for'the Ayson Bracelet were run on’ the Taieri Plain. Unfortunately, two dogs received injuries prior to the meeting, and only six dogs faced the starter. Miss R. Ralston’s Piccadilly Boy was fortunate in winning first place, with Miss T. Churchill's Gipsy _ Moth runner-up. The latter is an exceptionally clever working bitch, which was stripped in rather big condition to see out many courses. Mr A. Doherty was judge, and Mr F. Johnson slipped the dogs. Gipsy Moth and Shipmate were slipped to a strong hare. After a straight run the hare got to cover, and the course ended with no decision. 1 Ben Hur and Piccardy .Boy were given a long slip to hare. After,even exchanges in the lead the hare got to cover without the dogs reaching it. —Undecided. When Gallant Electric and Springbok were released the former led and turned. After even exchanges, the hare gained cover. Points, 4 —3. Gipsy Moth and Shipmate were released to a good hare. This was a good course, in which the former led, and, working closely and cleverly, easily defeated her opponent. Points, 9—2. Ben Hur and Piccardy Boy ran to an unsatisfactory course,'the former getting tossed in the fence. Piccadilly Boy won on speed. Gipsy Moth and Piccardy Boy were again released to a hare. The latter led out, and after negotiating the intervening fence he still had the advantage. Reaching the game, he turned. After several exchanges the hare reached cover, and the course ended. Points 4 —2. Piccardy Boy, a bye. In the final Gipsy Moth and Piccardy Boy were released in a long slip to hare. The latter reached the game first and turned, Gipsy Moth came in and turned twice. Then Piccardy Boy turned, and Gipsy Moth, working dose, bunched twice, and the game reached cover. Points, 4 —4. Undecided. Gallant Electric and Gipsy Moth were short slipped to a clever hare. Gipsy Moth led and turned and kept position for a time, when her opponent came up, secured a go-bye, and turned to cover. Points, B—4;8 —4; This was easily the best course of the day. For the runner-up. Miss Hastie presented a flower bowl.
