CLOTHES DRIVE IN THE CITY. A REMARKABLE RESPONSE. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. A clothes drive organised by the letter carriers of the city was held yesterday afternoon, and resulted in the collection of more than 10,000 parcels. The generosity of the householders exceeded the most sanguine expectations, and so much remained uncollected in the suburbs that a supplementary drive will have to be organised immediately to make the sweep complete. The collection included between 7000 and 9000 pairs of boots and shoes, bedsteads and bedding, sewing machines, kitchen utensils, preserves, groceries, and produce. The postmen were assisted by the Boy Scouts. Girl Guides, and the business men’s relief organisation.
