THEFT OF BICYCLES
A SYSTEMATIC PROCEDURE OFFENDER SENT TO PRISON. (Pee United Press’ Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 22. Jack . William Matthews, aged 33, a married unemployed man, was charged with the theft of seven bicycles, and was sentenced by the magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour. The police said the accused advertised bicycles for sale at bargain prices, despite the fact that he had no bicycles at the time. He received 50 replies. Following that, he made periodical visits to the front of the Post Office, stealing seven machines valued at £l7 10s in succession. For these he received £3 17s Gd.
