THE KING OF IRAQ

STATE VISIT TO LONDON FRIENDSHIP WITH BRITAIN (British Official Wireless.) (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyrlglt.) RUGBY, June 21. King Feisal made a State visit to the city to-day, where he was presented with an address of welcome by the Lori Mayor and the Corporation of London. King Feisal drove through the crowded streets in an open landau accompanied by the Duke of Gloucester and members of his suite. The carriage was drawn by four horses with outriders. An escort of Life Guards accompanied the procession.

The ceremony of presenting the address was followed by a luncheon. The Lord Mayor, in proposing King Feisal’s health, said that the close association between Britain and Iraq rested not only upon the formal provisions of a treaty, but upon firm friendship inspired by mutual respect and identity of interests formed in the war and sustained and strengthened in peace. King Feisal, in reply, made a gracious acknowledgment of the hospitality accorded him, and said that the friendship between the two countries was horn of common sacrifices, and had been nourished by the rapid development of mutual interests. “My country has received much help in the past from Britain, and looks confidently for further help in the future, and I know she will not look in vain. We need your help to develop the vast resources of our country, and the city of London, which is the birthplace of so many merchant adventurers, has never failed to appreciate the opporturiities open- to enterprise in distant lands.” Sir John Simon gave a dinner to-night at the Foreign Office on behalf of the British Government in honour of King Feisal. Prince George was among the distinguished guests.
