WATER DIVINING
IT) THE EDITOR.
SIR, —Some years ago a water diviner was employed to locate water on the Booloocooroo Estate of Mr J. Fleming Douglas, at Curlewis, New South Wales —about 300 miles north-west of Sydney—and after witnessing the results of that man’s work one would hesitate to say that water divining was not _an actual science. The estate comprised about 5000 acres, mostly flat with low hills on several of the boundaries, and water was located on different places, some on the sides of these hills: in fact, the lowest depth was on a hillside —and on boring nine sub-artesian wells averaging in depth from 40ft to a little over 100 ft, water was located in sufficient, quantities to warrant the erection of a windmill and large circular tank on eight of them, the ninth being useless because it contained soda water and could not be pumped. The owner of the boring plant employed the diviner and guaranteed a supply.—l am. etc.,' Jas R. Steven. Dunedin, June 22.
