MONACO’S FUTURE RULE

DISPUTE BETWEEN PARENTS. It is probable that the domestic affairs of Prince Pierre and Princess Charlotte of Monaco, involving the custody of their two children, will be settled without the Seine Tribunal being troubled (states Reuter). A postponement is being requested, and it is thought likely that eventually a settlement out of court will be reached.

Prince Pierre is asking the French court to confirm the finding of the court, of Monaco with regard to the custody of Prince Rainier and Princess Antoinette, the children of his marriage with the hereditary'Princess Charlotte, Duchess of Vahentinois.

When Princess Charlotte and her husband decided to separate they asked M. Poincare to arbitrate with regard to the future of their children. M. Poincare gave a compromise verdict, by which Prince Pierre’s prerogatives were maintained, as well as Princess Charlotte’s right to see her children. They were to live six months with their mother and six months with their father. The Monaco courts ratified the finding. Now, however, that Princess Charlotte has renounced her rights to the throne of Monaco and has asked her father, the reigning Prince Louis, to sanction a divorce, she and her father consider that the situation has changed. Prince Louis, it is stated, considers himself a more natural guardian for the children, an attitude which, it is believed, has the full assent of his daughter.
