Men will go off the odd tees and ladies ott the even tees. Th| following rules should be noted by compelitors. . . If the ball is Slaved off the tee by'a male player and lies out of bounds, the lady plays the ne*t stroke if the ball is in, say the fifth plantation, • two clubs length from the wire netting. If m the paddock on the opposite side the ball must be played off the men’s tee and_not tlieladies’ tee, and vice, versa. For me first round men will! play off odd tees, and ladies off even tees, and m the second round vice versa. If a player plays when the partner should have played the side shall be penalised two strokes. If a player plays a ball into, say, one of the ditches and is dropped tor one, the partner drops the ball and plays the stroke. Ladies will play off their own tees for the drive. Should three pairs happen to be in the net aggregate they will play off a full round to get the first and second best scores. They will start play either in couples by ballot, the re roaming pair playing with a marker provided by the Match Committee, or three couples may play together _if they are unanimous in consent. At the fourteenth hole (Butts) should the lady with her drive play out of bounds, her partner will play the next from the ladies tee and vice versa. The same will apply at the sixteenth (Conway). The pro f posed rule that ditches proper are the confines of a water hazard is notjef m force. Players should particularly note this at the seventeenth. MINIATURE RIFLE' NOTES By SIOHTEB. - The following are the club averages for the week, those for. the previous weew being given in parentheses: Oamaru, 76 . J (77.1); Weston, 76.8 (76.6); Railway, 76.7 (76.4); Enfield, 76.6 (75.6); Cromwell, 75.5 (74.3); Ranfurly. 74.4 (72); Volunteers, 73.2 (73.3); Totara 731 (74.7). From this it will he seen that the shooting for the week has been for the most part up to the standard of the previous shoots. Oamaru again headed the list, but showed a drop of .2 on the week’s averages. Weston, however, showed a slight • improvement, as did tne Railway Club. Enfield went up one point in its average. It is interesting to note that the four leading teams this week were only .1 behind one another, the next club—Cromwell—was 1-Lbehind Enfield, but showed a very satisfactory improvement on last week’s score. Ranfurly also showed pronounced improvement, bein«- 2.2 better than its |ast shoot. Volunteers have . been fairly consistent, but Totara dropped 1.6 to take last place. It is a pity that the other clubs not mentioned in the above' would not send in their results more promptly, so that a, better indication of the form of the various clubs in the association could be obtaThe best individual scores for the past week arC as follows:—C. Andrew A. Brown (Railway), A. H. Gibson (Enfield), G 'Campbell (Weston) 79’s, A Rennie (Railway), G.'Allan (Enfield). W, Mnnro (Oamaru). A. Howell, WL Sewell, H. M’Nnughton (Weston) 78’s. Following upon his outstanding score of 80 last week, C. Andrew continues to show good form, and secured a 79 at the last shoot. A. H. Gibson won the rifle button at the weekly shoot of the Enfield Club for the third time tins season. He improved upon his previous two scores of 78 with a well-deserved 79. A. Brown, who won the rifle button, showed lan improvement on his previous week s score by three nicks. A. Rennie, with a handicap of 13, came to light with a splendid 78, compared with his score of 65 for the previous week. He is to lw i congratulated on his excellent effort. Campbell, with 79, showed an improvement on his previous shoot of 76.. Campbell shot very consistently last season, and was'prominent in his club’s weekly shoots about this time last year. W. Munro, who finished up the season in good style last year, was included in the list of the best individual scores this week. His handicap has been lowered by two since last seasoh, and this seems justified on his present form.' A. Howell continues shoot consistently ' at Weston, and improved on his previous week s score to obtain a 78. W. Sewell went up five in his score for the week, and H. M'Naughton. previously a member of the Enfield Chib, is included in tins week’s list of best marksmen. This rifleman should be a decided acqnisiton to the Weston Club. G. Allan, a prominent member of the Enfield Club, is in good form for the shield shoots, and was two off the possible, this week. The following programme has been adopted bv the Railway Club for this season:—Bloch Cup (club championship), best 12 out of 18 shoots, off the rifle; Keith Rosebowl. best 12 out, of 18 shoots, with handicap: Wylie Cup. best aggregate over 18 practices, scores to include handicaps; Watt Cup. best 12 out of 18 shoots, including handicaps; Mr D. Williams s trophy, rifleman holding handicap button most ‘times; Mr F. Waterworks trophy, rifleman seciirinpr rifle hut ton most times. Mr W Woodall’s trophy, for runner-up in club championship. The club has also decided on holding a monthly teams competition with five men in each team. In the first match of the season held on the Oamaru range between the Railway and Oamaru Clubs, the last-named secured a comfortable win by 29 points, Oamaru s average for the first 10 riflemen was 77.2, which was better than the shoot on Monday night. 0. Glynn, H. Koppert, and A. North, with 79’s, J. Leslie and J. Cald-

well, 78’s, put their side in a sound position, as the top scorer for Railway notched only 77. The Glenavy Club, which is affiliated with the Waimate Association, has attained a high standard, which should act as an incentive to North Otago clubs. The large total of 32 marksmen gained the very creditable scores of 73 and over, and the average of the first 10 for this week was 77.7. The best average for North Otago clubs this week was 76.9. If the shooting of the Glenavy Club is any indication of the standard set by South Canterbury, the local association’s representative teams will have to look to their laurels to put up a good showing. The following are the highest scores at the weekly shoot of the Glenavy Club: N. Gibson, W. McCulloch 79, J. Purdie, A. CuthbcrtsOn. L. Wilson 78, W. Berry, R. Hoilamhv, W. Fleming. D. M'Culloch, A. Cooney V occupied the chair. The secretary (Mr J. M‘Nab) reported that’ last season 24 plots were allocated for unemployed men in Chelmer street reserve. All except one of these was taken up and well looked after, but only two men had competed at the Horticultural Society’s show. It was decided this year to leave the allocation of the plots to the secretary. Seeds would be supplied to the men as was done last year.
