SALE PRICES OF NEW ZEALANDMADE GOODS
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Last year I was able to buy a certain line of New Zealand-made boys’ stockings, any age, for 2s fid. Some time ago I inquired at the same shop for the same socks or stockings, and was informed that they were now 2s 9d per pair. The shop assistant could_ not explain the reason for the rise in price. Last week I received a sale bill, and on inquiry, I find the same boys’ socks 2s fid, 2a 9d, 2s lid, according to age. Gan yon .explain, Sir, why this should be? I cannot, except on the assumption that mothers, when they are able to do o try to do their best to keep their children warm and buy New Zeamn l-mad-* mod*, and that the shopkeeper takes advantage of them. It is high time the powers that be made some inquiry into this mulcting of the public, and I, for one, who have been a lifelong customer in this particular shop, intend to transfer my custom elsewhere. If one tides off a few of the most necessary lines before a sale and then compares notes when the sale begins, one begins to wonder what the meaning of the word really is.—l am, etc., Honesty.
