RUSSIA AS AN EXAMPLE

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I agree entirely with the views of your correspondent, G. Steel, when he says that the Bishop of Waikato must have been presented with literature of the Friends of the Soviet Union. It is hard to believe that a bishop should be in sympathy with any, idea that has its foundation in Russia, that country of heathen barbarism such as is not tolerated in any other land of white, black, or yellow race. It seems that the Soviet, to make good its boast to force every nation to adopt its ideas and religion, or want of religion, is commencing with those whose slightest word will carry considerable weight, thereby saving itself a lot of dirty work and valuable time. But why should we of the British Empire—the fairest country in the world, with the highest ideals —allow Russia, of all nations, to order our ideas and ways? How dare they attempt to force us to adopt their obsolete ideas of years 8.C.? Such an insult to God, Christ, country, and one’s own manhood and womanhood should be wiped out with the most drastic measures. We allow no other country to send doubtful advertisements, etc., yet Russia can send ambassadors and money to further her contemptible plans for complete destruction *of all that is best in this life and our hopes for the life beyond. I think that, as the politicians of Britain and her dominions, except Canada, fail to realise the terrible menace that is in our midst, it remains for the women to do their best to stamp out tins curse with all speed. The Go\v eminent spends thousands of pounds and valuable time in eradicating diseases, pests, and rot in fruit, etc., yet does nothing to check this most dangerous and infectious disease. My ideals that the mothers should form a league to smash np this contemptible outlawry as speedily as possible and demand that the Government become alive to the menace and bring in a Bill at once that all children must have religious instruction every day. There is nothing to prevent 'the principles of religion and the Commandments from being taught in school even if only 10 or 15 minutes are spent thus daily.—l am, etc. June 17. * Patriotic Mother.
