THE WOOL INDUSTRY
THREAT OF JAPANESE BOYCOTT NOT REGARDED SERIOUSLY (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, June 20. The Yorkshire Observer says: “The wool industry’s revival is sufficiently general to suggest a common basis and a sound foundation. The Japanese threat of a boycott of Empire wool is incredible, because it would jeopardise the huge expansion of Japan’s wool industry. Japan is dependent on Australia and New Zealand, and is unlikely to obtain sufficient supplies elsewhere.” The Yorkshire Post says: “ There is no indication that the trade has yet seen the full extent of the wave of expanding wool values. There is no lack of confidence in the present position.” THE WAREHOUSING CHARGE A FURTHER REDUCTION. SYDNEY, June 21. Members of the Sydney Wool Brokers’ Selling Association agreed, after consulting with the National Council of Wool Selling Brokers, that the warehousing charge on wool be further reduced by 5 per cent. This makes a total reduction for the season of 15 per cent. The Telegraph estimates that the wool growers should be about £120,000 better off as the result of the reductions.
