Irwin) ; occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs James Mitchell, H. Halliday, D. C. Jolly, and H. Archbold. The chairman referred to the loss the club had suffered through the deaths of Messrs W. A. Dawson, Thomas Stewart, I W. Dunford, and William Laidlaw.—lt ; was unanimously decided to forward letters of sympathy to the relatives. Messrs E. L. Macassey and W. H. Masters, representing the Otago Centre, New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, waited on the committee and asked for the use of the track at Forbury Park for harriers’ events. They would like the I use of the track for two Saturdays at the i beginning of the season and for three 1 Saturdays towards the close of the season. | —The chairman said the track was really I a training track. Several men trained i their horses on Saturday afternoons, ! which was the only day they had to . work their horses, and the club had to : look after them primarily.—Mention was ! made of the want of control the centre' i exercised over its members and others, i This had led to complaint by the carej taker that the club’s property suffered considerably, mostly at the hands of the centre’s followers. —Difficulties cropped up in regard to the September dates asked for —16, 23, and 30.—The chairman expressed sympathy with the harriers, but added that consideration must be given to trotting.—After the deputation had retired the caretaker was heard.—lt was decided that, owing to the impossibility of controlling spectators and followers, the request for use of the ground be declined.'
