BAICLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS (From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, June 21. ’ ; PLEASING PERFORMANCE. A delightful performance was given last night in the Britannia ■ Theatre by the “ Sunshine Follies," a local company organised under the auspices of the Balclutha Brass Band. The theatre was well filled, and the performance came fully up to expectations. It was of a serai-vaudeville character, and consisted of vocal solos, sketches, ballets. Eastern scenes, juvenile scenes, human statuary, Russian dances, etc. Mrs A. A. Yorston was the producer. Miss B. ' Stevens (Christchurch) ballet mistress, and the costumes were designed by '.Mies' Stevens and Mr Yorston. Mr E. Jeyat was in charge of the very efficient orchestra. The numerous graceful dances and ballets were outstanding features of the programme. Mrs Yorston was the solo danseuse in some, while Miss Stevens assumed that role in others, and the latter also showed to advantage in tap dancing. The vocal soloists were Miss Alva Myers, Miss C. Newson, Mr D.'Kaye, and Mr Brebner, and the following provided vocal accompaniments to dancesr —Mr B. Gold, Miss Aileen . Sproule, Miss Thelma Sinclair, Miss 3D. M’Cutcheon. Misses T. Hughes, V. and K. M'Auslan, R. Simpson, and A. Sproule appeared in; effective human statuary posings. “ Viennese Nights” was the title of the closing scene, introducing the ballet (with Mrs. Yorston as solo dancer), specialty waltzing by Miss Billie Stevens and Mr A. Yorston, with vocal accompaniments by Mr B. Gold. Mr W. Randle and Mr W. Lee appeared in several humorous sketches which made a great “hit" with the”audience. Those responsible for the time and care required in rehearsal are to be congratulated on the merit of last night’s performance, and it must be gratifying to them to know that the funds of the Brass Band will benefit considerably thereby. OLD LANDMARK. . Old residents state that the first licensee of the-Balclutha Railway Hotel, now in course of demolition, was Mr George Townsend (who had previously been licensee of the Crown Hotel). The next licensee was a Mr Hughes (an expoliceman). He was followed by the late Mr John M'Corley, mentioned in today’s paragraph, and it was the lastnamed who greatly enlarged the building, and remained in possession until the advent of no-license. LADIES’ GOLF CLUB. The following is the draw for a Bogey Match to be played on Saturday:— A Grade. —Mrs Telford v. Mrs Poynter, Miss Fleming v. Mrs Ramsay, Mrs Thompson v. Mrs Henderson, Mrs Walter v. Miss Edwards, Miss Grant a bye. B Grade. —Mrs Fleming v. Mrs Hislop, Mrs Copland v. Miss M'Donald, Mies Riach v. Miss Borthwick, Miss P. Sinclair v. Misg M’Kcnzie, Mrs Sinclair v. Miss Henderson, Miss Lory v. Mrs Landels, Mrs Kelly v. Mrs D. Henderson. The Medal Match played last Saturday was won by Mrs Poynter (A Grade) and Miss Sinclair , (B Grade),
